Glock 19 Manual Safety - GLOCK's proposed pistol was a finalist for the US Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System competition and is now rumored to be hitting the civilian market soon.
The team got a chance to actually test the gun. We loved it, and here's the exclusive story, the world premiere, including the first video.
Glock 19 Manual Safety
Let's start from the end. The 9mm GLOCK 19 MHS is a great pistol. It couldn't be any other way, as this is the pistol selected as a finalist for the XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS), the U.S. Army's competition to replace the decades-old Beretta M9 (we already reported it).
The Sig P365 Xl: A Really Good Pistol
In the end, another pistol, the SIG Sauer P320, was declared the winner. But the decision was contested and somewhat controversial, so when GLOCK invited us to its headquarters in Deutsch-Wagram/Austria to test the G19 MHS at the world's first event, we were both excited and intrigued. were
The GLOCK 19 MHS is extremely intuitive to use for anyone who has fired a GLOCK pistol before.
Our first contact with the new gun was very positive. The GLOCK G19 MHS is aesthetically pleasing and provides a "sense of identity" to anyone who has handled a GLOCK pistol before.
However, the more we looked at it, the more differences we found from any other GLOCK pistol. Of course, starting with color. Over the years, GLOCK has offered desert tan, olive drab, battlefield green (BFG), flat dark earth (FDE), and gray frames. But this is the first time a factory GLOCK has even had a colored slide. And there's something charming about the GLOCK 19 MHS's coyote tan slide, even something "sexy" about its soft, almost golden tones. However, the actual finishing process used on the slide is currently an industry secret.
Glock 17 Vs 19: Which Is Best For Concealed Carry?
The GLOCK 19 MHS appears to fuse the frame of the full-size G17 with the slide of the more compact G19. But this is not quite true. The G17 has the same grip height, but the dust cover is significantly shorter.
The GLOCK 19 MHS 9mm pistol grip is identical to the GLOCK 17 Gen4, minus the finger grooves of course. 19 round lockers are installed. Image:
The sight line is 151 mm (5.94 in) and the front of the slide is also beveled to facilitate holstering. The stock is 102 mm long and has a deep crown recess at the muzzle to protect the rifle.
Then that (I) is the protection of the famous hand. In fact, this is not even news. In the past, GLOCK has produced an external manual safety version of the G17S for some security forces around the world, and both the Austrian and British militaries have tested versions of the GLOCK 17 with a manual safety. But these models were made in very small numbers and are now collector's pieces.
Glock 19: Experiences And Tips For Concealed Carry
Additionally, GLOCK has always maintained, for some reason, that adding the three automatic safeties already integrated into their products is a useless complication for guns that are quick to fire, especially without manipulating button levers. Designed to fire.
Anyway, the thumb operated external manual safety was a definite requirement for the MHS competition, so here it is. A two-disc system with a paddle on the left and a lever on the right, which can only be operated with an engaged firing pin.

Other notable details are the grips, which have a flat front band with no finger grooves, a classic military loop ring insert at the bottom of the grip, and a flared magwell below the grip that sits next to the magazine base. extends to the part. . The scope can be easily adjusted to the shooter's hand thanks to GLOCK's modular backstrap system, which includes four additional backstraps of different sizes.

All controls on the GLOCK 19 MHS are duplicated on the right side. Hold the manual safety and open lever; Magazine release can easily be reversed.
Additionally, interestingly, the G19 MHS introduces a third cross pin after the "Gen 2" GLOCK to better support and distribute the energy transmitted through the locking block to the polymer frame. The existing design of the lock block and its placement in the frame do not require this.
The rifle comes with three double-stack magazines, one "standard" and two "extended", with a capacity of 17 and 19 rounds, respectively. Other than the color, these are stock GLOCK 17 magazines. With a standard magazine loaded, the G19 HMS weighs 908g (32oz).
New Hellcat Osp With Manual Safety
After inspecting the gun, we proceeded to informally fire the G19 MHS at GLOCK's indoor shooting range. There were more pleasant surprises for us. We were able to test the rifle not only with standard GECO 9mm 124gr FMJ factory ammunition, but also with genuine SP (Special Purpose) military loads. We are not permitted to release any information about the manufacture, construction or specifications of this classified ammunition except that it is very powerful indeed (+P+ ammo, about 20% more powerful than a million spec bullet charge). And very true, as it is affirmed. Our groups.
Our gun performed extremely well with both loads. Not only is the gun very accurate, but the trigger is exceptionally smooth and smooth, breaking with an almost "turn feel" and no over travel. The reset is easy and very short. Credit goes to a new trigger pack that integrates a manual safety but also uses a different type of spring than the standard GLOCK 17 and 19 pistols. The manufacturer claims a trigger travel of 12.5 mm (0.49 in).

Thanks to the perfect angle and texture, the grip is firm and comfortable even without finger grooves. In fact, many shooters say they're better off without them. With both standard GECO and powerful special purpose ammo, recoil and muzzle flip are easy to handle. As a result, we were able to print excellent and quite profitable groups with the gun up to 25 meters (27 yards) right from the start. We found no flaws in the operation and cycling of the GLOCK MHS pistol. The gun worked flawlessly. Spent shells are positively ejected, always landing in the same area one meter/yard to the right and slightly behind the shooter.
As stated in the first line of this article, the G19 MHS is without a doubt a great pistol, one of the best GLOCKs of all time in our opinion. But after losing the prestigious competition to arm the US armed forces on the basis of cost, what's next? Will it be a simple exercise in style? Well, maybe not.
Hk Vp9 Vs Glock 19: How Do They Compare?
After repeatedly saying in the past that the G19 MHS would not be offered to the public, GLOCK is now rumored to have changed its mind.
There is no official confirmation yet, but this is more than just speculation. The same rumors also suggest that the "civilian" G19 MHS will not have an additional manual safety feature.
This explanation, which is right in line with GLOCK's philosophy, clearly confirms that GLOCK officials are seriously considering that the civilian market might be a good option. It should be emphasized that GLOCK also produced a .40 caliber version for the Modular Handgun System competition, the G23 HMS.
If not with the military, the GLOCK G19 MHS could be a real winner with civilians. It would be a worthy revenge.

Our special thanks to the GLOCK management for inviting our team to their Austrian headquarters and allowing us to collect this valuable and exclusive information in person. There are some more details that we will prepare for you in the next few days. One of the most revolutionary and innovative features of the Glock line of pistols is their signature "GLOCK Safe Action" slogan. This is based on the fact that while there is no external manually operated safety, there are three internal devices: the trigger safety, the firing point safety, and the fire safety. This paved the way for modern pistol design to place the responsibility of handling the firearm on the user rather than an arbitrary lever. Firing a rifle also requires strategy. But was an experimental Glock ever made with an external safety? During the initial trials of the Austrian Army in 1982
